Skyrim 10e Survival Mode: best early game armor for warmth
Game Tip
In Skyrim 10e, Survival Mode cold weather can quickly hurt you. If you follow canon progress through the game, you'll probably first experience the effects of cold when trekking to Bleak Falls Barrow. However, the good news is that you can have a decent set of armor to protect you from the elements long before you climb up that mountain.
For those who prefer to be light on their feet, you can acquire most of these pieces of light armor in the Helgen dungeon and by defeating the bandits just down the road that leads west (left) after you exit the dungeon:
Armor | Warmth |
---|---|
fur helmet | 12 |
fur armor | 54 |
fur bracers | 12 |
fur shoes | 12 |
Note: Make sure you keep shoes and bracers. They have better armor values than boots and gauntlets. Also beware that some fur armor has only 17 warmth. You want the full-size armor.
If you like to take a beating in heavy armor, you can obtain these pieces in the Helgen dungeon:
Armor | Warmth |
---|---|
iron helmet | 12 |
iron armor | 54 |
iron bracers | 12 |
iron boots | 12 |
As you find better armor I recommend you hold off on replacing what you have unless the warmth rating is equivalent or the armor rating provides truly superior protection.
Don't stay frosty!
