Has the US declared biological war... on itself?
Blog
As the Senate prepares to confirm RFK as HHS Secretary, we need to understand that this is akin to declaring a biological war on ourselves. The man in charge of Health and Human Services for the US will be someone who does not believe in science. He openly dismissed a pile of evidence proving the safety and effectiveness of vaccines, presented by an actual medical doctor.
RFK acts like a little child, putting his hands over his ears and saying "Nah nah I can't hear you." Like his sponsor Trump, he feels his beliefs are more relevant than science.
But how can I compare RFK's approval to a declaration of war? Simple. Tens of thousands of people, mostly children, will die. The evidence that vaccines have prevented millions of deaths, let alone the morbidity (illness), is staggering. The CDC estimates vaccines prevent 4 million deaths per year.
You think vaccines don't work? Easy to prove-- what do you think happened to smallpox? Do you think it just went away? We almost got rid of polio too. Go here if you want to see the numbers.
You think it should be a personal choice? Nope. If large numbers of people remain unvaccinated, the diseases will continue. Worse, those people can infect people such as some cancer patients, who cannot get the vaccine. It's like seat belts. In general, people do not choose wisely, so it must be enforced upon them. Otherwise the rest of us have to pay their medical bills when they become paralyzed after flying through a car window. I've seen that; it ain't pretty.
Can we do anything about this? Nope. We have a Congress of idiots. In the long term we can vote them out... once it's too late. This is not some tariff that can be quickly reversed once the stock market starts to plummet. Kids will get sick, too late to be vaccinated. Vaccination does not confer immediate immunity. It takes time. I take no joy in knowing that the unvaccinated (and their parents) will suffer the most. RFK won't know-- it's said his kids are vaccinated...
EDIT (): Paul Krugman posted this similar article the day after I posted the article above. He goes into much more depth. Highly recommended reading.
